Watercolour - 'Tricks for Trees'
Date: 4th November - 9th December
Time: 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM [every Tuesday for 6 weeks]
Trees are one of the most loved – and most tricky – subjects in watercolour painting. In this 6-week course, artist and tutor Jason Skill will guide you step by step in how to draw and paint convincing trees, whether from photographs, sketches or simply your imagination.
This course is perfect for those who have been on one of our 'Introduction to Watercolour courses' and for artists with some experience who want to build their skills and confidence. You’ll discover how to break down the complexity of branches, leaves and texture into clear, manageable stages – and how to add life and character to your trees without overworking them.
What you’ll learn
-
How to see and simplify tree forms for painting
-
Ways to create convincing texture, foliage and depth
-
Tricks for capturing trees in different seasons
-
Balancing detail with looseness so your work feels free and expressive
-
Exercises that encourage play, experimentation and skill-building
Jason’s relaxed and encouraging teaching style means mistakes are welcome – they’re part of the process. Each week you’ll leave with new skills, fresh confidence, and a playful approach you can apply to your landscapes and sketches.
