Explore Felt making
Date: 3rd November -8th December 2025
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 [every Monday evening for 6 weeks]
Join us every Monday evening to exploring the wonderful world of felt making. This course is perfect for complete beginners and those wanting to build their skills and confidence step by step.
You will have the opportunity to explore both needle felting and wet felting and create designs using both techniques. You will explore a range of mixed materials to compliment your designs.
All materials and equipment will be provided for use.
Week One - Wet Felting – 2D felting and using a resist
Starting with the basics we will cover: what tools and materials are best for felting; what makes a good design; and how to prepare your fibres. Choosing from an autumnal colour palette, this session will be used to wet felt 2d fabric samples. (Please bring an apron and an old medium sized towel as wet felting can get messy)
Week Two - Wet Felting – 3D shapes and Nuno Felting
This session will be spent learning the art of felting in 3D to create structure and Nuno felting to create texture. By the end of this class, you will have a colourful textured fabric piece and vessel in felt. (Please bring an apron and an old medium sized towel as wet felting can get messy)
Week Three - Needle Felting – 2D onto fabric
During this session you’ll learn how to create your very own flat lay needle-felted artwork. You will learn how to lay out wool fibres, blend colours and then use the correct needles to interlock the fibres into your chosen design.
We will take inspiration from winter landscapes for this session.
Week Four - 3D Needle Felting – Using cutters and polystyrene
During this session you’ll learn how to felt onto polystyrene to create structure. You will also learn how use cutter templates to create shapes. We will take inspiration from winter snowflakes and holly for this session.
Week Five - 3D Needle Felting - Sculpting
This week you will be taught how to freeform sculpt in 3D. We will take inspiration from mushrooms and fungi for this session.
Week Six
This will be a “free” week - an opportunity to further embellish the felt you have made, or experiment with new techniques.
