Lino Printing [6 week course]

Date: 1st September - 6th October 2025
Time: 6:30 – 8:30pm [every Monday for 6 weeks]

Join us every Monday evening to exploring the wonderful world of lino printing. This course is perfect for complete beginners and those wanting to build their skills and confidence step by step.

Come get your hands dirty and creative juices flowing on this six week lino print course. Largely working on The Hut’s beautiful Rollaco press you will be guided through all the essentials needed to learn this simple yet incredibly effective range of techniques. On completion you will have a portfolio of different prints, as well as the skills and confidence to continue your printing journey at home should you wish to.

Week One 
Starting with the basics we will cover: which tools, materials and surfaces are best for lino printing; what makes a good design; and how to transfer designs from sketch to lino. Most of this session will be spent carving and printing a simple, single-colour design 

Week Two
Jigsaw Printing! This session will be spent learning the art of jigsaw printing. We will make multicoloured prints by cutting up the carved plates; inking the pieces separately; then putting them back together (like a jigsaw) to print in one go

Weeks Three, Four and Five
Dedicated to reduction linoprinting, a fantastic way to create multicoloured prints from just one block of lino (made popular by Picasso no less!). We will use the skills learned in previous weeks and focus on registration to create a beautiful edition of A5 prints 

Week Six
This will be a “free” week - an opportunity to print old plates, have a play with colour, and use the press.

Your tutor, Clare Bowes, is a photographer/printmaker specialising in lino print. Her work is largely inspired by trees, nature in general, and the beaches of Northumberland. She regularly teaches lino courses at The Hut and sells her prints and cards all over the North East and Cumbria
