Introduction to Screen Printing

Join us for an afternoon of hands-on screen printing inspired by shape, texture, colour, and the natural surroundings of the park.

During this relaxed workshop, you’ll experiment with paper stencil screen printing techniques to create a series of unique 2–3 colour prints on paper. The session begins with a short introduction to the screen printing process before moving into sketching ideas and developing your own designs.

Using hand-cut paper stencils, you’ll build up layered prints with colour and texture. A wide range of inks will be available for you to mix and experiment with, and you’ll be encouraged to explore how overlapping colours can create depth and unexpected effects within your work.

We’ll also look at a few different approaches to using colour and layering within the paper stencil process, giving you plenty of opportunity to experiment and develop your own style throughout the afternoon.

The green spaces and nature surrounding HUT on the Green will provide inspiration for the workshop, although you’re very welcome to bring along your own ideas or reference images if you’d like.

By the end of the session, you’ll head home with a collection of your own original prints and the confidence to continue experimenting with the process at home.

Led by professional printmaker and teacher Gail Bryson, this workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as anyone looking to try a new creative process in a friendly and welcoming setting.

No experience necessary and all materials are provided.

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little ink on — aprons will also be available.
