Fermentation Fundamentals
Date: Friday 15th May 2026
Time: 1:00 – 4:00 PM
Fermentation Fundamentals is a hands-on workshop introducing the principles and pleasures of home fermentation — a centuries-old way of preserving food that’s as good for your gut as it is for your tastebuds.
Led by fermentarian Clare Heal, this relaxed and welcoming session will guide you through the basics of lacto-fermentation, combining practical making with a clear explanation of what’s actually happening in the jar. [Find out more about Clare's work at https://clareheal.substack.com/]
During the workshop, you’ll make:
Sauerkraut
Kimchi
Brine pickles
You’ll prepare and take home a jar of each, along with clear recipes and aftercare guidance so you can confidently look after them as they ferment. Along the way, Clare will demystify the science behind fermentation and share tips for flavour, safety and experimentation — giving you the confidence to start fermenting all sorts of vegetables at home.
This session is ideal for beginners or anyone curious about fermentation who wants a solid foundation in a supportive, hands-on environment — with time for questions, discussion and plenty of tea.
Spaces are limited — booking in advance is recommended.
