Sewing - Quilted Letters
Dates: 5th November - 10th December [every Wednesday for 6 weeks]

Join us for a creative and inspiring 6-week quilting course. Learn step-by-step how to create your very own quilted wall hanging, personalised with beautiful letter appliqué using the versatile half-square triangle quilting technique. Perfect follow on course for those who have been to our introduction to sewing class or those with some sewing experience.
This course is led by professional textile artist Davey Powell (@davey.makes), a celebrated quilt and banner maker, lettering artist, and queer showman based in Whitley Bay. Davey brings creativity, passion, and expertise to every session, ensuring a supportive and inspiring learning environment.
Course Outline:
Week 1: Introduction & Half-Square Triangle Technique
- Course introduction and examples of completed work
- Tutorial on half-square triangle quilting
- Select fabrics and begin creating your quilt top
Week 2: Letter Appliqué
- Choose and create a letter appliqué
- Learn how to attach your letter using machine zig-zag stitching
- Complete your quilt top if required
Week 3: Quilt Assembly & Hand Quilting Techniques
- Layer your quilt top, batting, and backing fabric
- Explore various hand-sewing quilting techniques
Week 4: Finishing Touches
- Hand-sew final details, attach hanging loops, and bind your quilt
Week 5 & 6: Completion Weeks
- Dedicated sessions to finalise any remaining work
- Assistance available to ensure everyone completes their quilted wall hanging
Materials Provided:
- Sewing machines, irons, rotary cutters, cutting mats, quilting pins
What to Bring: Nothing - everything is provided - we even have sewing machines for you to use - although if you have your own machine - it might be a good idea to bing that with you if you can. Learning on your own machine is always better!
