Sashiko - Visible Mending
Date: Saturday 12th September
Time: 2:30pm – 5:30pm
Discover the beautiful Japanese art of Sashiko in this relaxed afternoon workshop with textile artist Sarah Johnson. Traditionally used to reinforce and repair clothing, Sashiko combines simple running stitches to create striking geometric patterns, transforming everyday fabrics through thoughtful, mindful hand stitching.
During the session you’ll learn the history behind this centuries-old technique, practise a range of traditional patterns and stitches, and create your own stitched sampler to take home. Whether you’re interested in visible mending, slow stitching or simply enjoying a few creative hours with needle and thread, this workshop is a wonderful introduction to a timeless craft.
Suitable for complete beginners, Sarah will guide you step by step in a small, friendly group, with plenty of encouragement along the way. All materials are provided, along with tea, coffee and biscuits—just bring yourself and enjoy a creative afternoon of slow, satisfying stitching.
Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.
