Introduction to Bookbinding

£95.00

Date: Sunday 3rd May 2026
Time: 10am – 5pm

Spend a day immersed in the traditional craft of bookbinding and discover just how satisfying it is to turn simple paper into something lasting and beautiful.

This hands-on, day-long workshop will introduce you to the fundamental techniques of bookbinding, giving you the skills and confidence to continue making books at home. Working step-by-step, you’ll learn how to measure, cut, fold and assemble paper with accuracy, and how to use specialist bookbinding tools and materials properly and safely.

Over the course of the day, you’ll make four different books, beginning with simple folded and glued structures before progressing to stitched bindings:

  • Accordion Book

  • Ori-Folder Book

  • Pamphlet Book

  • Single Section Long Stitch Book

By the end of the workshop, you’ll go home with four completed books and a solid grounding in core techniques that can be adapted and developed in your own creative practice.

The class is led by artist and bookbinding expert Yvette Ja, who brings both technical expertise and a thoughtful, supportive teaching style to the day.

As always at HUT on the Green, we keep group sizes small to ensure plenty of individual guidance, a relaxed pace, and time to really focus. All materials and tools are provided, along with tea, coffee so no need to bring anything with you - just turn up!

Whether you’re completely new to bookbinding or looking to deepen an existing interest in paper and print, this workshop offers a practical and inspiring introduction to the craft.
