Intermediate Photography

£115.00

Date: Thursday, 8th January - 12th February 2026
Schedule: Every Thursday for 6 weeks
Time: 1 - 3pm

This follow-on photography course is designed for anyone who has completed our beginners course (or has similar experience) and now wants to grow their creative confidence, refine their technical skills, and start producing more intentional, polished images. If you’re comfortable with the basics and ready to push things a little further, this is the perfect next step.

Across six relaxed weekly sessions, you’ll explore how to take more control over your photography — from working confidently in manual mode to developing your eye for light, mood, movement and storytelling. The focus here is on combining technique with creativity, helping you move beyond “technically correct” images into photographs with depth, feeling and impact.

Each week we’ll look at a new area, including working with natural and artificial light, mastering different focusing modes, shooting in low light, exploring depth of field creatively, and using shutter speed for expressive movement. We’ll also dive deeper into composition, visual narrative, colour theory, and how to build a personal style that feels like you.

Editing will feature more prominently too. You’ll learn the fundamentals of organising your workflow, making confident editing decisions, and understanding how to enhance an image without overworking it. We’ll use simple, accessible tools and focus on developing your eye rather than relying on presets.

There will be plenty of hands-on shooting throughout the course — portraits, still life, interiors, natural light, and outdoor photography — alongside group discussion, gentle critique, and space to share work each week. You’ll receive a small weekly assignment to practise between sessions, with supportive feedback in the following class.

What to bring

Your own camera (ideally DSLR or mirrorless), as it’s best to learn on your own equipment. If you don’t have one, we may be able to loan a camera — just get in touch. No need to buy anything new!
