Join us for a playful Saturday morning exploring the wonderfully spontaneous world of monoprinting.

Monoprinting sits somewhere between painting and printmaking. Unlike other printing methods, each impression is unique—making it the perfect technique for expressive mark-making.

During this hands-on three-hour class, our tutor Clare Bowes will show you how to apply and manipulate ink to create bold, painterly prints. You’ll experiment with layering, masking, drawing and removing ink, discovering how unexpected marks and happy accidents can become part of the finished work.

There’s no need to arrive with a carefully planned image. Monoprinting is all about responding to the materials, trying things out and enjoying the process. Expect an expressive, creative and fun morning with plenty of opportunities to experiment.

You’ll explore:

• The basic tools and techniques used in monoprinting

• Creating painterly marks with printing ink

• Working with colour, shape

• Layering and combining different impressions

• Using masks, stencils and found materials

• Developing unexpected marks into finished prints
