We’re really looking forward to hosting our first HUT Plant Swap on Saturday 6th June, from 10am–1pm.
It feels like just the right moment in the year for something like this. Seedlings are starting to push through, gardens are waking up, and there’s that sense of things getting going again. A plant swap feels like a natural extension of that — a way of sharing what’s growing and passing it on.
The idea is simple. Bring along what you have, and take home something new.
It might be seedlings you’ve sown this spring, cuttings you’ve been nurturing on a windowsill, divisions from a garden that’s getting a bit full, or even a few spare plants that need a new home. It doesn’t need to be perfect or precious — often it’s the slightly unexpected things that make these swaps interesting.
But more than anything, this is about bringing people together.
We’re hoping it will be a relaxed, friendly morning at the HUT — a bit of coming and going, plenty of conversation, and a shared interest in growing things. A chance to meet others who enjoy making and gardening, to swap ideas as well as plants, and to learn from each other along the way.
There’s something quite special about that exchange. A plant that’s grown in one garden finding its way into another. Knowledge being passed on in a casual conversation. Tips, successes, failures — all shared openly. It’s a simple way of building connection, both to each other and to the act of growing itself.
If you’re planning your growing this spring, now’s a good time to sow a few extra seeds so you’ve got something to bring along. But equally, don’t worry if you’re new to it all — you’re very welcome to come along, have a look, ask questions, and get involved in whatever way feels right.
Whether you arrive with a tray full of seedlings or just curiosity, you’ll be welcome.
We’ll have tea on, the doors open, and we’ll see what the morning brings.
Put the date in the diary — we’re excited to see how it grows.
