Fire Starter: A Day for Creative Teachers

we are excited to welcome The Design Trust to help us develop more meaningful, creative, and aligned learning experiences.

Monday 20 April | HUT on the Green | 10am – 4pm

We’re really pleased to be hosting something a little different at the hut this spring — a one-day gathering for creatives who teach lead by The Design Trust.

The Fire Starter isn’t a typical workshop or training day. It’s not about learning how to market your courses or structure a beginner class. Instead, it’s a carefully facilitated day for experienced creative teachers who want to pause, reflect, and develop their teaching in a more meaningful way.

If you’ve been teaching for a while — running workshops, courses, or programmes — you’ll probably recognise the feeling. You’ve built something that works. You’ve supported people. You know your craft. And yet, there’s a quiet question in the background: what next?

How can your teaching go deeper?

How can it feel more aligned with who you are now?

How can it be more creative, more impactful, and more connected to what really matters?

This day is about making space for those questions.

A different kind of learning environment

The Fire Starter is built around time, space, and connection.

Rather than sitting and listening, you’ll be actively involved throughout the day — reflecting on your own practice, exploring ideas, and having conversations with other experienced creative teachers. There’s a lot of value in simply being in a room with others who care deeply about teaching and creativity in the same way you do.

It’s a small group by design — just 20 people — so there’s room to think, to talk, and to properly engage.

What you’ll take away

By the end of the day, you’ll have had the chance to:

  • Reflect on why you teach, and what you really want to offer

  • Explore what makes learning genuinely creative and transformative

  • Rethink your teaching — from small shifts to completely new directions

  • Develop ideas that feel more aligned with your values and practice

  • Sketch out your future teaching in a clear, practical way

You’ll leave with an A2 map of your ideas — something tangible to take forward — but more importantly, with clarity and momentum.

Why we’re hosting it

This event feels very aligned with what we’re building at HUT on the Green.

So much of what happens here is about more than just learning a skill — it’s about experience, connection, and creating something meaningful. That applies just as much to the people teaching as it does to those attending.

This event is about supporting that next layer — helping creative teachers develop their practice in a way that feels thoughtful, intentional, and alive.

We’re really looking forward to hosting this one — it should be a special day.
