Welcome to The Hut on the Green, an exciting new arts project nestled within the heart of Gosforth Central Park. Set to open its doors in September 2024, this innovative space will be housed within the former Ladies Bowling Club Pavilion, transforming it into a vibrant hub for creative expression and cultural enrichment.
At The Hut on the Green, we envision a place where people from all walks of life can come together to explore, learn, and create.
Our mission is to provide a diverse range of talks, classes, workshops, and cultural events that will not only benefit the local Gosforth community but also serve as a catalyst for personal growth and community connection.
THE BIG IDEA
Gosforth has long been in need of more creative opportunities, and The Hut on the Green aims to fill that gap by becoming a center of cultural value and artistic exchange. From visual arts to applied crafts, our programs will cater to individuals of all skill levels and interests, offering something for everyone.
We will be offering classes and courses in Life drawing, painting, ceramics, basket weaving, children's art club and more... if there is something in particular you would like to learn or have a go at - then we are all ears + let us know what you would like to see at the Hut on the Green

Our vision extends beyond just creative pursuits. We are committed to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of ecology and horticulture through talks, lectures, and hands-on workshops. By engaging with the natural world around us, we hope to inspire a sense of stewardship and connection to the environment.
TREADING LIGHTLY
Central to our ethos is sustainability and accessibility. We aspire to run The Hut on the Green in an environmentally sensitive manner, striving towards carbon neutrality and encouraging the use of public transport. Additionally, we are dedicated to ensuring that our programs remain affordable and accessible to all members of the community.
We are currently raising money to undertake some essential works to the building - mainly upgrading security and decorating inside and out to give this incredible building a new lease of life - and we need your help to do this!

Only a week to go until our ‘Bat chat’ bat-box making workshop with our friends @nickjamesdesign and @wildintrigue. In this family friendly workshop you will learn all about bats - how import they are in nature, then make a bat box like this, which you can take home with you or leave with us to install amongst the trees in Gosforth Central Park for our nocturnal friends. We will be using the wood from one of the trees which recently fell down in the park - making something for the park, in the park, with something from the park! After all of this we will head out at dusk with bat detectors, to see if we can spot any bats taking flight as the sun goes down. Today is the day! We finally got the keys to The Hut on the Green from @urbangreenncl and can celebrate the next step in our plan to develop this small but perfectly formed pavilion in Gosforth Central Park into a creative space. We are planning a year-round program with evening classes workshops and talks in a range of creative practices from Life drawing to basket weaving, ceramics and horticulture and at weekends we plan to have a children’s art club and craft activities.
